all skirts all the time
October 1st, 2007yes, it’s true, i have been on a skirt-making binge….trying to sew up a nice little stock of them for upcoming shows…it’s a risky venture to spend so much time on making them because i don’t know if they general public is going to be as into them as i am. I feel guilty for not focusing all my energy on dollies. But, this has been a nice diversion from adding to my army of skellie minions, at least for a little while ![]()

Another take on paperdolls…

And still working my way through the process of using every last scrap of the astral skull fabric…white this time, with black lace hem.

And my very favorite…. the sushi skirt! I love sushi, but my Mister is not a fan, so i don’t get to eat it very often. I channeled my craving into this silly skirt.
I just love the simplicity of this skirt pattern, and it is so fun to sew these easy girls….i can be creative and wacky with prints and trims, use up smaller pieces of fabric that have just been hanging around unused for far too long, and just turn ‘em out like gangbusters…..focused only on the FUN of it, not the frustration of sizing and putting in zippers and darts. They can be anything i want them to be. It’s the sort of sewing that is perfect for “Where i am” right now. Easy, fun and joyful.
But soon, i must get my bravery up and begin work on my sugar skull dress so i will have something special to wear for Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos celebrating. I am EXTRA inspired because i found these fantastic shoes that match the fabric….

Is that clever or what?? I wish i had thought of it! The skulls are cut straight out of the Alexander Henry fabric and sewn onto the shoe. Simple. And CUTE! I hope i can get the dress done without ruining that great fabric. I am SO nervous, i don’t want to cut into it at all!!!!
So i have been so very busy with so many different projects that i am not even going to go into all today. Busy= GOOD, just as long as i keep it in perspective and remember WHY i am so busy….which is because i simply *love to make stuff*. The cherry on top is that i love it that people out there like what i make, it makes my heart feel full of butterflies and “pushes” me to keep at it. Sometimes i freak out when i think of the amount of work i need to accomplish for Mutation and the open house at Bella’s, as well as adding the occasional tricks and treats to my Etsy shop. Overwhelming. But then i stop and remind myself that i am DOING WHAT I LOVE. There is only as much pressure on me as i put on myself, right? And i am NOT going to torture myself…i’m being super extra NICE to me! And wonder of wonders, the nicer i am to ME, the more i get done. Amazing
Happy first day of the BEST month of the year, everyone! I hope it’s full of joy.

I’m not usually partial to skulls…but…I really like the black and white skirt. It’s a little startling to see just what the print is but when one does, one can’t help but liking it. I wish you lived nearby so I could attend one of the shows and snap it up!
I just found your site, courtesy of Laura at the Little Orange Kitchen and I’m really enjoying it so far. =)
